The Great Dorset Steam Fair   - Friday 26-8-22

We stayed at a pub stopover on thursday night near Cerne Abbas, and made our way to The Great Dorset Steam Fair.

This event is huge and we have been before but never camped here, so were looking forward to being here in the evenings. There are roughly seven beer tents, with live bands, plus a couple of outside stages as well. Add to that a huge funfair, and copious food outlets, its quite an event. Arriving on the friday, the show had already been going for 2 days, and with pitches allocated in an orderley manner, we were pitched right on the perimeter of the site, about a mile away from the entrance. Luckily, there is a regular bus service which goes around the outside of the campsite to the entrance of the show, so we were not too worried. We got set up and then caught the bus to the show.

Because our van was very close to the road the bus took, I didn't take too much notice of where we were actually located, as we would just get off the bus when we spotted the van on the way past. When we got to the entrance and looked back I just hoped the bus would take the same route back.

We spent all day in the show, well into the evening, visiting the beer tents and listening to some of the live bands. Unfortunately, we were not aware that the campsite busses finished at 8pm. With only a rough idea of where we were pitched, and in total darkness, it wasn't easy finding our way home!

This is where the lights stopped, still half a mile to go.
